This role involves managing a team of software engineers to contribute to product strategy, develop the team, and guide the way in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, and user interface design.
Requirements
- 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects
- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
Responsibilities
- Manage a high-performing team of software engineers.
- Provide technical guidance to the team as they design, develop, integrate and test the features for BeyondBackendBackbone (B4) availability, scaling and NPIs.
- Prioritize work and ensure that incremental progress is made even if the problems at hand are difficult to solve in a short period of time.
- Help team members and partner teams understand the broader context and solve the right problems at the right time.
- Be comfortable with changes in the execution plan if they are enabling the right impact for Google.
- You not only optimize your own code but make sure engineers are able to optimize theirs.
- As a SWE Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team.
Other
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
