Google is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to provide technical leadership to major projects and manage a team of engineers. The role involves optimizing code, guiding team members in optimizing their code, managing project goals, contributing to product strategy, and developing the team. The manager will oversee engineers across multiple teams and locations, manage a large product budget, and deploy large-scale projects internationally.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
  • Experience coding in C++ or Python.
  • Experience in Hard Disk Drives (HDD).
  • Experience in systems that connect directly to storage devices (e.g., Solid State Drives (SSD), Hard disk drives (HDD)).
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Storage Servers, Distributed Storage, Network-Attached Storage, Direct Attached Storage.
  • Experience in Embedded systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, guide and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve problems.
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Develop the mid-term technical direction and roadmap within the scope of your (often multiple) team(s).
  • Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
  • Optimize your own code.
  • Make sure Engineers are able to optimize theirs.
