Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Software Systems Operations Lead to work in the Scientific Computing & AI Division to lead software and AI projects, manage software systems and teams, and provide oversight across an ecosystem of software systems.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in Software product development.
- Experience managing and configuring software development management platforms (e.g., Jira, Github).
- Experience in software product development or software operations for commercial software products.
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, Systems Engineering, or related degree
- 9 years of experience (Level 4) or 14 years of experience (Level 5)
- Master’s and 6 years of experience (Level 4) or Master’s and 8 years of experience (Level 5)
- PhD and 4 years of experience (Level 4) or PhD and 6 years of experience (Level 5)
Responsibilities
- Lead/manage software and AI projects from conception through implementation and closeout by using project management skills, knowledge, and standard methodologies.
- Ensure that the scope of work to be performed is clear, concise, and executable by working with the customer and the primary owner to establish firm project/task requirements.
- Lead and participate within diverse, multidisciplinary teams on software and AI system projects in support of mission strategy and INL business development.
- Provide oversight across an ecosystem of software systems and teams to track ecosystem progress, ensure alignment across software systems, and coordinate with architects, developers, and product owners on feature sets, timelines, and dependencies.
- Serve as the primary contact with customers and business partners throughout the lifecycle of the project from conceptual initiation through closeout.
- Communicate project status, risks, mitigation plans, and other vital information to key project personnel, stakeholders, and sponsors.
- Software development work planning (sprints, epics, etc.) using Jira

- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'Q' clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
- Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience as specified in the qualifications section.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard, and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance.
- Selective Service registration required for males born after December 31, 1959
