Requirements

  • Basic programming experience in at least one language commonly used in bioinformatics (e.g., Python, R, or Bash)
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix command line environments
  • Exposure to workflow management systems- AWS Healthomics
  • Experience with version control tools, such as Git/GitHub
  • Coursework or project experience in genomics, transcriptomics, or computational biology methods
  • Understanding of containerization (e.g., Docker or Singularity)
  • Interest in pipeline optimization and NGS data

Responsibilities

  • Analyze large-scale biological datasets (such as genomics or transcriptomics data) using established bioinformatics tools and custom scripts, ensuring data quality and reproducibility of results.
  • Develop, maintain, or improve computational pipelines for processing sequencing data, including automation of routine data analyses and integration of new analytical tools where appropriate.
  • Document analysis procedures, code, and findings clearly in shared notebooks or reports, and communicate key results effectively to the research team through written reports or presentations.
  • Working closely with experienced bioinformaticians, the intern will focus on validating existing workflows, identifying areas for optimization, and ensuring the reproducibility and robustness of analytical results.
  • Responsibilities will include running test datasets through pipelines, documenting outcomes, troubleshooting errors, and contributing to workflow improvements in version-controlled environments.

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate results clearly and work collaboratively in a team setting
