WSDOT is seeking an Engineering Manager to guide the planning, design, and construction of Sound Transit projects that interact with WSDOT facilities, ensuring the protection of WSDOT's infrastructure and operations while facilitating regional transit investments.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology across multiple disciplines, including roadways, roadway structures, pavements, stormwater systems, highway construction, and traffic engineering. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Knowledge of complex highway construction project delivery including construction traffic management.
- Knowledge of NEPA/SEPA processes, permitting requirements, WSDOT policies and procedures, right-of-way acquisition/surplus processes, and limited access/access management regulations.
- Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models.
- Advanced knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits.
- Advanced knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of structures such as highways and roads.
- Advanced knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Responsibilities
- Represent WSDOT’s engineering, maintenance, operation, traffic, and legal interests for Sound Transit projects.
- Provide strategic leadership for Project Development/Design & Construction Engineering activities for Sound Transit projects, including ensuring that proper design documentation is developed, archived and approved by Headquarters (HQ) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
- Oversee, and in some cases provide approval of, engineering drawings and documents produced by and stamped by a Professional Engineer.
- Develop and implement strategies across both WSDOT and Sound Transit organizations to ensure strong communication and coordination of engineering activities.
- Integrate organizational and community interests.
- Champion effective internal and external communications between Sound Transit and WSDOT organizations.
- Make staffing recommendations to Sound Transit and WSDOT.

- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington, or registration in another state with the ability to obtain a Washington State license within six (6) months.
- Ability to respond 24/7 to address emergencies and emergency issues.

- Travel is an expectation of the position and may be required on a regular, sporadic, or as needed basis.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSCE).
- Master of Science in Engineering (MSCE).
- Demonstrated ability to lead the planning, design, and construction of complex transportation infrastructure projects from concept through completion.
