The Arizona Department of Health Services is looking for a Special Research Intern to assist with research and consulting on complex biomedical topics, including natural curatives, homeopathic treatments, and substances like psychedelics, to treat various disorders. The role involves researching, reporting, and potentially advising on the safety and efficacy of these substances, as well as assisting with grant applications and event planning.

Requirements

  • Experience using the Google Workspace, including Google Sites, Forms, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive. Or, experience using the equivalent Microsoft applications.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify potential technical challenges.
  • Education in Biochemistry, especially medical chemistry; Pharmaceutical Sciences; experience researching psychedelic substances; and knowledge of medical and research professionals connected to psychedelic substance research and treatments.

Responsibilities

  • The Special Research Intern provides research, advice, and consulting regarding complex biomedical topics such as biomedical research and clinical trials on various natural curatives, homeopathic treatments, and substances.
  • This position involves researching and reporting on uses of psychedelics and/or hallucinogens like Psilocybin, Ibogaine, Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD), Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), Mescaline, 3-methoxy-4,5-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MMDA or Ecstasy), and other substances, to treat various emotional, psychological, or medical disorders.
  • You may be asked to establish and maintain quality contacts with external pharmacological, psychological, neurological, and medical professionals and sources.
  • You will be called to visit medical facilities, scientific facilities, and higher education research laboratories, to work contact researchers, medical professionals, and subject matter experts across multiple topics such as the safety and efficacy of marijuana, psilocybin, and ibogaine, to treat various medical, psychological, and neurological conditions.
  • You may be asked to conduct academic research on a variety of biomedical topics.
  • You will assist in the review and evaluation of grant applications for scientific and research projects.
  • You will assist in preparing written reports on research findings, provide content for legislatively required annual reports and websites.

Other

  • The Special Research Intern will join our team for a minimum of 46 weeks, working up to 20 hours each week.
  • must have a GPA standing of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Ability to represent topics clearly and effectively with individuals, or in front of groups of people.
  • A self-starter mentality and an ability to work independently with only little to moderate supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
