Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a Junior Intern Technical or Senior Intern Technical to join their team of qualified, diverse individuals to work on various information technology projects, including security, simulation, training, enterprise-level IT solutions and products, information systems and services, and engineering.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of specific equipment and technologies is desired, but not required
  • Experience with software engineering, information security, project management, networking, telecommunications, and program management is a plus
  • Familiarity with enterprise-level IT solutions and products, information systems and services, and engineering is desirable
  • Basic understanding of computer systems, networks, and software applications
  • Familiarity with programming languages, such as Java, Python, or C++
  • Experience with database management systems, such as MySQL or Oracle
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices

Responsibilities

  • Become part of Newport News Shipbuilding's Information Technology Division
  • Rotate to areas within the information technology field each semester, including Software Engineering, Information Security, Project Management, Networking, Telecommunications, and the Program Management Office
  • Work on various information technology projects, including security, simulation, training, enterprise-level IT solutions and products, information systems and services, and engineering
  • Collaborate with a diverse and innovative team of professionals, including skilled trades, project managers, engineers, software developers, solution architects, technical subject matter experts, and system users
  • Contribute to the design, build, and refuel of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines
  • Participate in a premier CoOp college intern program that provides opportunities to gain diverse experience in the information technology field
  • Work up to 20 hours a week as part of the Information Technology Division

  • Must be a full-time student enrolled in a 4-year college/university
  • Must have completed freshman year
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
