At American Express, the business problem is to architect and engineer data access security controls to manage, monitor, measure, and report the data access security posture of the organization’s data estate, specifically controlling access to semi-structured and unstructured data hosted on distributed servers, cloud, storage, file systems, file shares and collaboration repositories.

Requirements

  • 3 years of hands-on experience in SQL development (query optimization, stored procedures, indexing strategies, partitioning).
  • Solid understanding of data modeling techniques (star schema, snowflake schema, normalization/denormalization).
  • Proven ability to work with large-scale relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on performance tuning and scalability.
  • Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines for data workflows.
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Azure Synapse).
  • Knowledge of Java, Python or other scripting languages for automation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance SQL pipelines to process and transform large volumes of data from multiple sources.
  • Optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views for performance and scalability.
  • Build and manage ETL/ELT workflows (on-prem and/or cloud) to ensure reliable and automated data ingestion and transformation.
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into data models and pipeline solutions.
  • Develop custom scripts and automation workflows for deprovisioning access based on leavers or transfer events, and usage inactivity.
  • Ensure data pipelines are reliable, documented, and monitored with proactive alerting and logging.
  • Drive improvements in data quality, availability, and governance.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Security (or equivalent work experience)
  • 4+ Years of hands-on experience.
