Local Hero is seeking a Sr AI Engineer to build core AI systems and frameworks that will support future AI applications, driving marketing innovation and efficiency.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in applied AI/ML engineering
- Proven track record building AI agents and/or conversational AI systems
- Experience fine-tuning and deploying LLMs (OpenAI, Llama, or similar)
- Strong background in ML/DL frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Proficiency in Python and ML Ops pipelines, including training, deployment, monitoring, and CI/CD within AWS
- Experience deploying AI/ML systems in cloud environments (preferably AWS services such as SageMaker, Bedrock, Lambda, ECS, Step Functions)
- Strong prompt engineering skills to optimize LLM performance
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy AI agents capable of interacting with users, systems, and APIs across cloud environment(s)
- Fine-tune large language models (LLMs) for domain-specific needs (e.g., auto insurance, home insurance)
- Develop and optimize machine learning models for classification, scoring, predictive analytics, and real-time decisioning
- Implement evaluation pipelines to measure model performance, reliability, and production readiness
- Automate workflows and processes using AI/ML solutions to improve scalability, efficiency, and cross team impact
- Stay on top of the latest advancements in LLMs, generative AI, and agentic frameworks; propose practical applications for our products
- Establish foundational patterns, frameworks, and best practices that future AI applications and teams will build upon

- This position is remote (hybrid available if within commuting distance to Boulder, CO) and open to candidates living in the following locations: Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wyoming, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico.
