NERC is looking to hire a Senior Data Analyst to help synthesize data using a mix of analytics, visualization, and modeling techniques to assist departments, managers, and executives in making business decisions and improving processes. The goal is to improve understanding of risks and performance, and to support the reliability and security of the bulk power system.
Requirements
- Mathematical skills including statistics.
- Intermediate-level computer and programming skills in applications such as Python, Microsoft SQL Server, and Excel (i.e., Macro, VBA, PowerPivot).
- Experience with business intelligence tools and systems (i.e., PowerBI, Tableau, SAS)
- Practical experience with business application of machine learning and data science, including AI.
- Understanding of bulk power system operations.
- An understanding of and direct experience with all phases of the software development lifecycle.
- Proficient in writing both for technical and general public consumption.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and implementation of centralized data collection processes and tools for collection and analysis of reliability metrics.
- Strengthen data collection and validation processes for data collections systems.
- Review and analyze nuanced data to identify trends and patterns in data and provide recommendations for improvement, optimization, or value opportunities.
- Collect, clean, and analyze data from various sources using statistical methods and tools, such as SQL, Python, R, SAS, or Excel.
- Combine data from various sources and document data relationships (data modeling).
- Conduct ad-hoc data analysis to support business decisions and strategic planning.
- Communicate data insights to leadership and other stakeholders via presentations or by maintaining reports, dashboards, and visualizations.

- Provide industry expertise and critical thinking skills for identifying needs for developing and analyzing a range of NERC/industry databases and associated performance metrics to protect and improve North American bulk power system reliability.

- Previous experience in the electric industry, electric power generation, transmission, and power system reliability as well as knowledge of the business and operational functions of an electric utility and familiarity with the risks and controls of these functions.
- A background check will be conducted prior to employment.

- The position may be based remotely but must be able to travel to NERC offices or meeting locations if needed. Reimbursement of travel expenses will be in accordance with the company’s travel and expense reimbursement policies.
- Passport required for North American travel. Travel is necessary several times per year. Must be able to travel to NERC offices and member organizations as required.
