Sony Pictures Television (SPT) is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build the foundational infrastructure and services behind Sony Pictures’ next-generation streaming platform, architecting and developing highly scalable APIs, backend services, and system integrations to power core streaming features.
Requirements
- Proficiency in C-Sharp/.NET and working experience with Go or Python.
- Solid understanding of API design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems patterns.
- Experience with cloud-native development (preferably AWS) including services like Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, SQS, and API Gateway.
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows, version control, and automated testing frameworks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to navigate complex system interdependencies.
- Experience supporting video streaming platforms, especially backend systems related to playback, metadata, entitlement, or content pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, CloudWatch, or Datadog.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, cloud-native backend services that support core streaming platform capabilities such as content management, metadata, playback, scheduling, entitlement, and more.
- Build and optimize APIs that enable internal and external teams to deliver consistent, high-performance video experiences across platforms.
- Collaborate closely with architects, DevOps, and product managers to design extensible service interfaces and system boundaries.
- Contribute to service orchestration, data flow optimization, and performance tuning across a microservices-based architecture.
- Integrate with a variety of internal systems and external services (e.g., CDN APIs, authentication, entitlement, SSAI, analytics).
- Drive high standards for software quality, testability, observability, and deployment automation.
- Participate in architecture reviews, design sessions, sprint planning, and technical mentoring.
Other
- 5+ years of experience developing backend systems or platform infrastructure in a production environment.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills; comfortable working across technical and non-technical teams.
- Knowledge of advertising technologies such as SSAI, ad beacons, or video analytics (a plus, but not the focus of the role).
- Experience working with global teams, vendor partners, or hybrid delivery environments.
- The anticipated base salary for this position is $120K to $170K.
