Automattic is looking for a Staff Data Scientist to be a technical leader at their globally distributed company, leading a centralized data science team focused on the development and implementation of advanced data models and analyses to translate data insights into actionable strategies.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior data science role within a large, complex tech company.
- Strong expertise in statistical analysis, basic machine learning, and predictive modeling.
- Proficient in Python and familiar with data science libraries (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn).
- Fluency using distributed SQL query engines like Hive, Presto, or Trino.
- Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Knowledge of domain-specific analytics (Web hosting, WordPress development).
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of advanced data analysis algorithms and statistical models across multiple business units.
- Design and drive company-wide data initiatives, shaping the direction of data analytics and insights to support strategic decisions.
- Mentor and guide junior data scientists and analysts.
- Collaborate with senior management and cross-functional teams to leverage data to drive company-wide impact.
- Communicate complex data-driven insights and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders, facilitating data-driven decision making at the highest levels of the company.
