Western Alliance Bank is seeking a skilled Microsoft Purview Engineer to join their Microsoft 0365 team to design, implement, and maintain Microsoft Purview solutions that help govern, catalog, and protect the organization's data assets across cloud and on-premises environments.

Requirements

  • 4-7 years of experience working with Microsoft Identity technologies
  • Experience with other data catalog and governance tools (Collibra, Alation, Informatica).
  • Knowledge of cloud security best practices and identity/access management.
  • Experience with compliance standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA.
  • Additional experience with pipeline development and leveraging Azure DevOps while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, Microsoft Purview certifications).

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage Microsoft Purview environment including data catalog, classification, and governance policies.
  • Develop and maintain data classification and labeling strategies using Microsoft Purview to ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Integrate Microsoft Purview with Azure services, data lakes, and enterprise data sources.
  • Automate metadata ingestion and data lineage tracking workflows.
  • Monitor Purview health, troubleshooting, and optimizing performance.
  • Provide training and documentation for data governance best practices and Purview usage.
  • Stay current with Microsoft Purview updates and cloud data governance trends.

  • Minimum 7 years overall IT experience
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards, and practices.
  • Advanced proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced ability to see the big picture and align projects with organizational goals. Capable of leading and motivating cross-functional teams. Expertise in resolving conflicts and addressing challenges as well as skilled at identifying and mitigating risks at the project level. Proficient in governance patterns tied to intake, technical reviews, and architectural compliance.
  • Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
  • May require up to 25% travel.
