GM is looking to improve the customer experience, drive sales, and expand their physical product eCommerce solution to other potential lines of business, exploring Marketplace approaches. They aim to rapidly ideate, iterate, and launch innovative solutions to connect with current and future customers, ensuring high availability and achieving revenue goals.
Requirements
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes or Terraform), including development of microservices using CI-CD.
- Hands-on experience with eCommerce integrations.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability tools (i.e Datadog), and incident management protocols.
- Architecture experience: Microservices, Event-Driven Systems, etc.
- 10+ years of experience in front-end and backend technologies/frameworks (React, Next JS, Java/J2EE, Spring boot, Cloud platforms like Azure, GCP, Micro services Message Queues- Kafka, IBM MQ, Azure topics etc.).
- 5+ years of experience contributing to the architecture, documentation and design of new and existing systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling)
- Strong grasp of end-to-end eCommerce solutions (shop, search, cart, checkout, payment, order management and fulfillment).
Responsibilities
- Lead complex engineering initiatives, considering design and implementation of scalable full stack (front and backend system) , APIs, and database, applying best practices on Software Development processes, design, create/improve technical /design documentation and guiding development teams to ensure solutions/systems achieve high availability, performance, scalability and security, to support continuous growth and expansion of GM’s enterprise eCommerce B2C and B2B solutions, leveraging a combination of COTS products, homegrown developed systems and services, ensuring seamless integration with various GM’s systems and external solutions.
- Support the engineering team through the entire lifecycle of implementations, operations and maintenance of existing and future new systems/platforms.
- Develop competency across our complete Commerce backend technology stack, to design and evolve core backend systems, scale product catalog, search, cart, check out and order fulfilment capabilities.
- Lead with the engineering team the end‑to‑end implementation and ongoing operation of eCommerce solutions (Front and Backend Systems, ensuring systems operate at scale to handle peak traffics (like during holiday seasons) , also guaranteeing low latency and high availability.
- Define and evolve system architecture across multiple scrum teams. Partner with engineering leadership to align technical direction with Digital Commerce domain strategy.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and technical strategic direction to a team of software engineers composed by Managers, Senior and Mid-Level SW Engineers.
- Design and support the deployment of future platforms (i.e. Shopify) to support the transformation of the Physical eCommerce space, considering future new line of business and Global expansion.

- This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Austin Innovation Technical Center, GM Global Technical Center, or Mountain View Technical Center three times per week (at minimum).
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 7+ years of experience with eCommerce solutions.
- 3+ full lifecycle implementations of eCommerce solutions.
- Strong software engineering background with hands‑on coding experience.
