Google is building a new architecture for its data centers to meet the demands of maintaining its large fleet, support new technologies like machine learning pods, and integrate better with manufacturing and supply chain operations. The company needs a staff engineer to design and build its next-generation data center software platform for capacity planning, data center modeling, and machine lifecycle management at scale.
Requirements
- Experience in C++ or Java, Data Modelling Languages, System Design, and Distributed Systems.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
- 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
- 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
- 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
- Experience in data center architecture and systems.
Responsibilities
- Define a hardware modeling language and schema to represent all resources in a datacenter.
- Design and build distributed systems and full-stack features to automate datacenter workflows, keeping customer goals top of mind.
- Design and surface key metrics for the operation and health of the Google fleet.
- Help establish and iterate on engineering best practices in collaboration with the broader engineering team.
- Collaborate with Product Manager (PM), User Experience (UX), and other stakeholders across NPI (New Product Introduction) teams and Google.
- play a critical part in designing and building the new architecture and key platform capabilities in modeling new hardware, performing early validation and simulation, and deploying resources in the data center.

- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
