PayPal is looking to guide the technical direction of commerce experiences in the Venmo iOS app, aiming to deliver fast, reliable, and accessible experiences by modernizing the codebase and improving existing structures and processes.

Requirements

  • Expert-level Swift (and comfort reading Objective‑C) plus deep knowledge of SwiftUI, UIKit, Combine, async/await, and networking.
  • Experience shipping complex features at scale offline‑first flows, concurrency, real‑time updates, or high‑fidelity animations.
  • Familiarity with mobile AI/ML Core ML, on‑device inference or a willingness to learn and lead adoption.
  • Deep understanding of mobile accessibility and internationalization.
  • Experience optimizing App Store release pipelines and feature‑flag‑driven rollouts.
  • Modernize our codebase migrating UIKit to SwiftUI, adopting async/await, and improving build times.
  • Partner with server teams to craft efficient GraphQL and REST APIs that keep the app fast and data‑savvy.

Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and ship features for Pay with Venmo and Business Profiles using Swift, SwiftUI, and Combine (with occasional Objective‑C touchpoints).
  • Lead design discussions and code reviews, ensuring durable architectures and clean abstractions.
  • Modernize our codebase migrating UIKit to SwiftUI, adopting async/await, and improving build times.
  • Partner with server teams to craft efficient GraphQL and REST APIs that keep the app fast and data‑savvy.
  • Champion performance, accessibility, and reliability; measure what matters and keep our SLIs green.
  • Mentor other iOS engineers through pairing, design sessions, and thoughtful feedback.
  • Prototype new commerce ideas and AI‑powered features (Core ML, on‑device inference) and help bring successful spikes to production.

Other

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years building and shipping consumer iOS apps, with at least 2 years as a technical lead or staff‑level IC.
  • Ability to explain complex trade‑offs in plain language and align cross‑functional partners around a technical vision.
  • Inclusive mindset you help teammates grow and design solutions that serve a diverse user base.
  • Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system.
