Google Cloud's services need reliability, uptime, and fast improvement. The SRE team works to improve the latency, reliability, and observability of L7 Load Balancing with Google Cloud, delivering secure, low-latency, high bandwidth, cost-effective ingress and egress proxies.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience coding in one or more general purpose languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, Go).
  • 3 years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
  • 3 years of experience leading projects.
  • Experience working in computing, distributed systems, storage, or networking.
  • Experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (e.g., TCP/IP, Routing, VLANs, Load Balancing, etc.).
  • Ability to debug, optimize code, and to automate routine tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, through to deployment, operation and refinement.
  • Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews.
  • Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health.
  • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and creative uses of AI to evolve systems, pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
  • Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
  • Develops software platforms and frameworks.
  • Make changes directly in binaries.

  • Ability to work across time zones, including weekend on-call work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and problem-solving skills.
