Waymo is looking to scale its mapping infrastructure and transform its mapping schema to support safe autonomous driving by creating a high-resolution map of the world. This involves developing systems for automatic map generation, storage, processing, and distribution.
Requirements
- Experience with large-scale data processing using frameworks like Google Data Flow or Apache Beam
- Experience with Tensorflow and/or C++
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of software engineers to help us scale our mapping infrastructure and to transform the mapping schema
- Evaluate and launch machine learning models that automatically generate map from raw data
- Work with onboard teams to evolve Waymo’s mapping format to make it more automation friendly
- Build backend infrastructure for storing and processing many forms of map data
- Scale our systems to support mapping the whole world

- Experienced manager and technical leader

7 years of total experience, > 2 years experience as a manager
- Proven track record of leading a team to solve difficult technical challenges
- Willingness to own problems end-to-end and work on various parts of the system
- A passion for good software engineering
- M.S. or Ph.D in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience
