AEP needs to oversee the engineering and design for expanding and refurbishing transmission and distribution substation facilities in West Virginia and Kentucky, ensuring solutions are technically sound, cost-effective, and aligned with corporate policy, customer needs, safety, system reliability, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- A minimum of eight (8) years of electric utility engineering experience.
- Three (3) years of experience in station design, maintenance, or construction.
- Three (3) years of experience leading engineering, construction, or operations assignments.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in any state of the U. S. preferred.
- Highly skilled in technology and computers.
Responsibilities
- Scoping and engineering the electrical configuration and physical layout of substations
- Producing construction and record documents for transmission and distribution stations
- Specifying and ordering all materials required for implementation of designs
- Supporting construction and commissioning teams
- Plan, organize, direct and supervise the engineering and design of AEP system station facilities, or external station facilities as requested by other customers.
- Provide technical consultation and support of others consistent with internal expertise and organizational responsibilities.
- Support annual development of the capital forecast pertaining to AEP stations, in support of corporate and business unit strategy, in a manner which effectively prioritizes organizes and addresses customer and public projects, planned system improvements, equipment troubles, facilities rehabilitation and other capital work.

- Build, support and maintain a team of engineers and designs capable of successfully executing a large and complex portfolio of projects and maintain AEP’s position as a premier electrical utility and innovative company.
- Collaborate effectively with other project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution by removing roadblocks and enabling team success.
- Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with the policies, practices, standards, and rules of the Company and regulations and procedures as required by federal, state or local regulating agencies.
