Portsmouth Public Schools (PPS) needs to implement and facilitate K-12 STEM programs, instruction, and professional learning to meet its STEM goals.

- Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
Responsibilities
- Develops and facilitates professional learning and coaching focused on K12 STEM, including the use of inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, and problem-based learning in the classroom.
- Uses appropriate resources and technology to promote the implementation of STEM instruction throughout science, math, and CTE classrooms.
- Coordinates the alignment of the division?s STEM strategies and resources with the division?s content curriculum.
- Collaborates with content coordinators and the instructional technology coordinator to ensure sustainability of STEM education in PPS.
- Assists schools with the planning of STEM activities and family engagement related to STEM.
- Works with the CTE coordinator to expand STEM pathways through high school.
- Works to expand and implement extracurricular STEM programs at all levels, including VEX Robotics, First Robotics, and Chrome Clubs.
Other
- Under supervision of the Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, the K-12 STEM Specialist provides leadership for implementing and facilitating K-12 STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) programs, instruction, and professional learning.
- The specialist ensures resources are available for use by administrators, teachers and students .
- In addition, the position provides the necessary professional learning and coaching requirements to meet the STEM goals of Portsmouth Public Schools (PPS).
- Seeks out, applies for and monitors implementation progress of STEM-related grants.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction.
