The State University of New York's Office of Environmental Health and Safety is seeking a Student Assistant to support EHS teams by collecting, organizing, and managing key datasets for SUNY campuses, and to help design and implement systems for streamlined, consistent data collection and entry.
Requirements
- Demonstrated proficiency with Excel or basic database software.
- Experience with data collection and managing large datasets and data visualization tools.
- Familiarity with research and analysis methods and techniques.
Responsibilities
- Gather and organize data from sources such as incident reports, and inspections.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to explore trends.
- Create visualizations that allow for communication of information contained in the dataset.
- Support the creation (or enhancement) of templates or dashboards for standardized data input.
- Participate in quality checks of submitted data and assist in resolving inconsistencies.
- Assist with the development of campus plans or programs using information from datasets.
Other
- Pursuing a degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Safety Management, Public Health, Public Administration, Data Science, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective teamwork and reporting.
- Ability to work independently, recognizing when to seek guidance and effectively communicating needs to supervisors.
- Current full-time enrollment at a SUNY campus.
- Hours are flexible. Typically 10-15 hours per week during the academic year and up to 20 hours per week in the summer.
