Salas O’Brien is seeking a Sustainability/Mechanical Engineering Intern to support federal and private-sector energy projects, focusing on energy modeling, HVAC system analysis, sustainability planning, and data-driven project evaluation.
Requirements
- Familiarity with building energy systems, AutoCAD/Revit, or energy modeling tools (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus).
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Energy, or Environmental Engineering (or related discipline).
- Some college or better in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing energy models, equipment inventories, and utility data analyses.
- Support ongoing projects related to Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs), and nature-based resilience planning.
- Conduct research on regulatory frameworks, permitting, and environmental compliance relevant to mechanical and energy systems.
- Help develop mechanical system layouts, submittal reviews, and technical documentation for federal and private sites.
- Work with cross-functional teams on sustainability assessments, carbon reduction strategies, and building performance improvements.
- Contribute to report writing, presentations, and technical graphics summarizing engineering findings.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in sustainability and energy efficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable working in a collaborative, technical environment.
- Mentorship from licensed Professional Engineers (PEs) and Certified Energy Managers (CEMs).
- Experience working on real projects that integrate sustainability, resilience, and regulatory compliance.
