Google is looking to solve the problem of managing services and systems at scale, with a focus on automation, reliability, and efficiency, to support its cloud-based services and enable digital transformation for its customers.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience with systems automation, and with systems design and implementation.
  • 3 years of experience with technical infrastructure (e.g., deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting).
  • 3 years of experience working with vendors or customers.
  • 3 years of experience debugging network and hardware problems.
  • 3 years of experience writing production software in Python or Go.
  • 3 years of experience in systems development engineering, system reliability engineering, software engineering with a focus on operations, or advanced systems administration.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and practices: integration tests, source control, release processes, monitoring, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in on-call activities, manage the systems within the domain and work with the primary responders to help fix system issues.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, evaluate technical data, and develop recommendations for systems and services within the domain, respond to tickets/bugs within team-defined service-level objectives (SLOs), and contribute to systems and services in related domains through bug reports and consultation.
  • Work with customers on defining distributed systems requirements, testing procedures, and proposing solutions.
  • Develop tools and solutions that fix classes of problems.
  • Focus on observability: instrumenting first, then turning data into knowledge, and finally knowledge into action.
  • Engineer and build the infrastructure, tools, access and telemetry for systems that enable orchestration of Google-scale services.
  • Contribute to the development of systems and services in related domains through bug reports and consultation.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or IT-related field, or equivalent practical experience.
