Johns Hopkins Medicine is building a new generation of AI and data-powered tools that accelerate discovery, improve clinical decision-making, and reduce operational burden across the health system. This role will lead engineering efforts at the intersection of applied AI and modern cloud data platforms to power precision care, accelerate discovery, and enable scalable software solutions.
Requirements
- Cloud data platforms including Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and associated Azure services (e.g., OneLake, Delta Lake)
- Healthcare data environments, including Epic Cogito, FHIR, and OMOP
- Workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Apache Airflow)
- LLMOps and MLOps platforms (e.g. MLflow, PromptFlow)
- Generative AI and NLP tools (e.g. Azure OpenAI, John Snow Labs)
- Enterprise cloud platforms, especially Azure, including experience with cost optimization, RBAC, and resource management
- Data science methodologies, including supervised/unsupervised learning, model evaluation, and statistical inference
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software and platform engineers responsible for AI solution development, MLOps infrastructure, and data platform administration.
- Drive the successful delivery of applied AI projects, including LLM-enabled applications, clinical decision support tools, and patient cohort analytics.
- Oversee the development and enhancement of cloud-based data platforms, ensuring reliable, secure, and performant access to health system and research data.
- Partner with enterprise data engineering and analytics teams to advance our platform strategy, including adoption of Microsoft Fabric and Databricks for modern ELT, mirroring, and data productization.
- Own and evolve the team’s engineering practices, including source control workflows, CI/CD pipelines, IaC, observability, testing, and release processes.
- Partner with your Enterprise IT Architect team member on architecture decisions related to AI/ML systems, data platforms, and APIs, balancing performance, maintainability, and security.
- Support responsible AI development by contributing to risk assessments and governance reviews.
