EY's Indirect Tax practice needs to navigate the complexities of state and local taxes, which are a significant tax burden for companies and are increasing globally. The role aims to help businesses understand their tax liabilities, identify risks and opportunities, and align with their broader tax strategy.

Requirements

  • High level of proficiency in federal and state income tax code, regulations, and procedures
  • Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
  • The ability to analyze client data, technical guidance, and make recommendations to engagement teams.
  • The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
  • The ability to leverage firm-approved AI tools in a business setting, including Microsoft Copilot.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a variety of tax consulting, planning, and compliance services to a diverse range of clients operating in various sectors.
  • Oversee state-level tax projects, including state tax planning (e.g., internal legal entity restructurings), state tax controversy (e.g., state audit assistance, state private letter rulings), and related research.
  • Manage, prepare, administer, and direct multiple state tax services for clients.
  • Apply knowledge to a wide range of tax areas and processes.
  • Devise strategic outcomes to some very complex issues.
  • Analyze client data, technical guidance, and make recommendations to engagement teams.
  • Leverage firm-approved AI tools in a business setting, including Microsoft Copilot.

Other

  • A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and an LLM in Taxation or related education.
  • Membership or anticipated membership in a US state bar.
  • A strong academic record including, without limitation, course work that EY deems relevant to this position.
  • The ability and willingness to travel and work in excess of standard hours when necessary. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs.
  • Access to reliable transportation to/from the EY office and client sites. A driver’s license is strongly recommended as ride share and public transportation options may not be available in all locations.
  • Strong influencing skills, and the confidence to question existing processes.
