Clean Energy Associates (CEA), a part of Intertek, is looking to solve the problem of ensuring quality, safety, and reliability in battery energy storage systems (BESS) by providing quality assurance (QA) services. The Technical Lead, Energy Storage QCE, will lead a team to execute these QA projects, provide technical consulting, mentor junior staff, and improve storage QA services.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional QA/QC experience in manufacturing, energy storage, automotive, or a closely related industry.
- Ability to oversee and execute QA/QC projects (FA, IPM, PSI, FAT) independently.
- Direct QA/QC experience with lithium-ion battery production or large-scale energy storage systems (a huge plus).
- Experience in energy storage testing/inspection, O&M, or electrical experience with utility-scale energy storage systems.
- Experience leading QA/QC teams and reviewing/approving technical reports and audits.
- Familiarity with relevant testing tools such as curve tracing, insulation testing, infrared scanning, multimeter use, and safety practices.
- OSHA 10/30 certification, fall protection training, and training in arc-flash, lock-out/tag-out, and other special protective equipment desirable.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor Energy Storage QCE team members, providing technical guidance, training, and support in executing QA projects.
- Oversee and execute QA projects (e.g., Factory Audits (FAs), Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), In-Process Monitoring (IPM), Pre-Shipment Inspections (PSI)) for battery cells, modules, racking, and container factories.
- Review and approve QA reports, checklists, and deliverables to ensure quality and consistency across projects.
- Travel to client sites and lead audits, inspections, and commissioning on energy storage systems and components.
- Provide technical consulting to clients and internal teams on BESS quality assurance and compliance.
- Support the development of tools, processes, and methodologies that enhance QA service delivery.
- Act as a subject matter expert in QA methodologies for complex manufacturing and energy storage environments.

- Must be able to travel up to 80% of the time.
- B.S. in engineering or physics (4-year engineering/science degree); Associate degree acceptable with significant relevant experience.
- Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience in a technical or QA/QC capacity.
- Strong communication skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), diligent record-keeping, proficient in Microsoft Office and computer skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in harsh conditions, including but not limited to desert areas, winter conditions, nighttime work, long hours standing, climbing stairs and ladders.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required (including but not limited to steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron, and arm guards).
