The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) needs a Test Engineer to ensure the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through rigorous testing of large-scale, safety-critical systems.
Requirements
- Experience in software testing and testing methodologies
- Strong background in test automation tools (Selenium, JUnit, PyTest, or similar)
- Proficiency with test management platforms (JIRA, TestRail, HP ALM)
- Experience supporting federal IT compliance standards (NIST 800-53, RMF, FISMA, FedRAMP)
- Familiarity with performance and load testing tools (JMeter, LoadRunner)
- Knowledge of FAA Safety Management System (SMS) and how safety integrates into testing
- Experience with automated regression frameworks, digital twins, or advanced simulation environments
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of enterprise-level test strategies, test plans, and methodologies.
- Oversee system, integration, performance, and acceptance testing across FAA workstreams.
- Provide subject matter expertise on testing processes, standards, and best practices.
- Manage and mentor test engineers and analysts, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Collaborate with program managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define test requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Ensure all testing complies with FAA standards, NIST RMF, FISMA, and safety frameworks.
- Direct the use of test automation, simulation, and validation tools for efficiency.

- Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of experience or Masters degree and 10 years or or Associate’s degree and 14 years’ experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years experience
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with ability to brief FAA leadership
- Professional certifications such as ISTQB Test Manager, PMP, SAFe Release Train Engineer, or CSTE
