The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) needs a Test Engineer to ensure the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through rigorous testing of large-scale, safety-critical systems.

Requirements

  • Experience in software testing and testing methodologies
  • Strong background in test automation tools (Selenium, JUnit, PyTest, or similar)
  • Proficiency with test management platforms (JIRA, TestRail, HP ALM)
  • Experience supporting federal IT compliance standards (NIST 800-53, RMF, FISMA, FedRAMP)
  • Familiarity with performance and load testing tools (JMeter, LoadRunner)
  • Knowledge of FAA Safety Management System (SMS) and how safety integrates into testing
  • Experience with automated regression frameworks, digital twins, or advanced simulation environments

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of enterprise-level test strategies, test plans, and methodologies.
  • Oversee system, integration, performance, and acceptance testing across FAA workstreams.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on testing processes, standards, and best practices.
  • Manage and mentor test engineers and analysts, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Collaborate with program managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define test requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure all testing complies with FAA standards, NIST RMF, FISMA, and safety frameworks.
  • Direct the use of test automation, simulation, and validation tools for efficiency.

  • Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of experience or Masters degree and 10 years or or Associate’s degree and 14 years’ experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years experience
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with ability to brief FAA leadership
  • Professional certifications such as ISTQB Test Manager, PMP, SAFe Release Train Engineer, or CSTE
