The Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) is seeking a researcher to identify trends, issues, and effective programs and services within the juvenile justice system to inform decision-making.
Requirements
- Courses in research methods and statistical techniques.
- Two (2) years of full-time wage-earning experience in applied research, research planning or design, data/statistical analysis, or academic research writing.
- Experience in academic writing for publication in research journals.
- Experience using survey software (e.g., Qualtrics, Microsoft Forms)
- Experience using BI tools (e.g., PowerBI) and/or statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R).
- Experience in data analysis, research, compilation, and/or reporting work.
- Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods and their application to research analysis and the ability to perform complex analysis.
Responsibilities
- Prepares or assists in preparing written articles on qualitative and quantitative research findings for publication in academic journals.
- Conducts and reviews field surveys and interviews with staff and youth; collects, compiles, analyzes, and reports data required in the development of plans or programs.
- Assists in formulating research objectives and programs; collaborates in the development of research designs, scope, methodologies, and processes used in conducting and administering research and evaluation activities; provides consultation on research methods and techniques, and data collection and coding issues and provides consultation and technical assistance on the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of community-based programs.
- Prepares data and comprehensive statistical and narrative reports for presentation for agency management, professional organizations, governmental entities, and the public.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret data from a variety of sources, including academic journals, reports, articles, and internal data collection efforts, ensuring accuracy and credibility of research deliverables.
- Collects, cleans, visualizes, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data using a variety of data analysis software tools.
- Develops data quality assurance procedures and conducts data quality assurance audits on data used by the agency and for agency projects.

- May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week
- Will be required to travel up to 25% of the time.
