Penn State seeks to hire a Research Technologist to join the Martins lab team focused on developing and improving viral diagnostic assays and viral vaccines.
Requirements
- Work experience in a virology research lab or animal science-related fields.
- Knowledge of basic scientific and veterinary medical terminology, laboratory safety, and quality control procedures.
- Proficiency in microbiological techniques, including aseptic techniques, and record-keeping skills.
- Experience with genome sequencing or animal experiments is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory assays in classical and molecular virology.
- Work with cell cultures and viruses.
- Participate in chicken and turkey experiments.
- Ensure equipment is functioning correctly and maintain laboratory inventory.
- Assist with surge testing diagnostic needs, including occasional after-hours or holiday work when required.
Other
- Work with attention to detail, strong time management, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Rabies vaccination and biennial titer checks are strongly recommended and will be covered by the laboratory.
- Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
