The Office of the Provost at the University of Hawai'i needs a lead web developer to create, manage, and optimize digital platforms that communicate the Provost’s initiatives and uphold the university’s brand, ensuring a cohesive and impactful online presence.

Requirements

  • Considerable working knowledge of website design and development as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with website design, development and performance management, accessibility compliance, and analytics reporting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in creating visual mockups, wireframes, and/or prototypes using associated software (i.e., Figma, Sketch, Penpot, or Lunacy).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in web development standards and languages (i.e., HTML/CSS, PHP, JavaScript, or comparable).
  • Knowledge of user interface and user experience design.
  • Knowledge of coding practices necessary for developing web-based applications and websites; prototyping and iterative development techniques; and systems development methodology and techniques.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of web content management systems (i.e. Wordpress, Drupal, Cascade, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Manages and maintains the official website and associated digital properties of the Office of the Provost, ensuring all content is accurate, current, and aligned with the Provost’s messaging and strategic priorities.
  • Provides expert consultation on web development best practices, including site architecture, user experience (UX) design, and web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG) for various units reporting to the Provost.
  • Manages multiple concurrent web projects, prioritizing tasks, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains the official website of the Office of the Provost and its affiliated digital properties, ensuring technical integrity, security, and scalability.
  • Leads the design and implementation of new websites and digital assets for strategic initiatives, academic programs, and special events.
  • Stays current with emerging web technologies, industry trends, and standards, proactively recommending and implementing enhancements to improve the Provost's digital footprint.
  • Monitors and analyzes website traffic, user behavior, and engagement metrics using data-driven insights to inform content strategy, optimize user experience, and drive continuous improvement.

Other

  • Serves as the lead content strategist and creator, drafting, editing, and curating digital copy that reflects the institutional tone and adheres to university brand standards.
  • Produces a range of multimedia assets, including graphics, video, and interactive content, to strengthen engagement and support the Provost’s strategic goals.
  • Collaborates directly with campus units and stakeholders to transform complex strategic messaging into engaging and accessible digital content that reflects the Provost’s priorities and resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Provides training, support, and guidance on digital best practices to various units and administrative teams, fostering a culture of digital excellence and consistency across campus initiatives.
  • Ensures the consistent application of the University of Hawa'i's visual identity and brand guidelines across all digital platforms managed by the Office of the Provost.
