The University Advancement department needs to migrate existing website content, structure, and functionality from a legacy CMS (CommonSpot) to WordPress, ensuring accurate URL mapping, SEO maintenance, and a seamless user experience. They also require ongoing site maintenance and support, and potentially the development of new custom web applications.
Requirements
- Proven experience migrating websites from legacy CMS platforms (e.g., CommonSpot) to WordPress.
- Strong knowledge of WordPress (including themes, plugins, and custom development).
- Solid understanding of SEO best practices related to site migrations.
- Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1 compliance).
- Design skills or the ability to closely replicate/update existing visual identity
Responsibilities
- Audit existing website content, structure, and functionality in CommonSpot.
- Transfer necessary information to the WordPress site based on existing or improved design standards.
- Migrate all relevant content (pages, documents, media, links, etc.) to WordPress.
- Ensure accurate URL mapping and implement 301 redirects to maintain SEO.
- Rebuild or replace custom functionality/modules in WordPress, if applicable.
- Conduct QA testing to ensure a seamless user experience and proper functionality.
- Designs, develops, and deploys web applications and integrate databases based on relevant website coding scripts
Other
- Meet with department administrators and faculty to discern what information needs to be migrated to intranet and/or public facing website.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to review progress and gather feedback.
- Provide documentation and training for ongoing site maintenance in WordPress.
- Serves as a subject matter expert, consultant, and main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding website and application options, design, maintenance, and support
- Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.
